Mall of Qatar — Augmented Oasis City

Mall of Qatar is an award-winning shopping center in Al Rayyan, Qatar. While its initial focus was to provide a unique shopping and entertainment experience, its mission grew to build an autonomous and sustainable urban development. Their Augmented Oasis masterplan will fulfill residential, education, spiritual, retail, and leisure needs in just one place. The Mall of Qatar hired us to provide a 3D rendering solution to promote their vision and future expansions.
Unloop developed the software for the Touch Table and Backdrop Video Wall that allows users to visualize the present and future Mall of Qatar. To enhance the experience, we introduced the interactive Walk-in Space feature, transporting users to the amenities and allowing navigation through a 3D environment. Just like a videogame!

Our 3D artists and developers created a unique experience, fun and easy to use. Select one of the spaces and you can navigate it through a first-person view while controlling your movements on the touch table. The users also can visualize the future mall expansions year by year, and each area also contains an informative popup and a media gallery.
There is much to explore in our 3D masterplan for the Mall of Qatar! Therefore, it was essential to keep the user experience simple and intuitive. All it takes is a finger tap to explore the different stages of the project!

The user interface reflects the Mall of Qatar's graphic identity. Fonts and color palettes are chosen to provide optimal contrast and readability against the sleek white architecture of the Mall of Qatar. Map markers are seamlessly integrated into the 3D map, ensuring users can access additional information effortlessly, regardless of their navigation.
For this purpose, we needed the best tools for architecture visualization, as graphic quality was paramount.
At Unloop, we don't limit ourselves to what we already know. Once it became clear that Unreal Engine was the best choice to bring the Mall of Qatar to life, we embraced it and allied Unreal Engine's rendering capacities with Unity's versatility.

The Mall of Qatar features several areas designed with an eco-friendly, futuristic, and welcoming aesthetic. These areas showcase innovative design elements such as sustainable architecture and modern aesthetics, creating a pleasant atmosphere for visitors.
With a Gross Leasable Area dedicated to premium retail, the Mall of Qatar offers a wide array of entertainment concepts and dining options. Visitors can explore over 500 retail stores, dining establishments, cafes, and entertainment venues, each providing a unique and memorable shopping experience. From cutting-edge entertainment offerings to exquisite dining options, the mall caters to diverse tastes and preferences.

Connected to the AL RAYYAN HOTEL DOHA, a 5-star Al Rayyan Hotel Doha Operated by the Curio Collection by Hilton, and offering direct access to Doha, the Mall of Qatar provides convenience and accessibility for visitors. Whether staying at the hotel or exploring the city, guests can easily access the mall's amenities and offerings, enhancing their overall experience.

BIG RETAIL draws inspiration from eco-architecture, integrating natural elements like leaf-shaped designs into the building. By merging futuristic concepts with environmental consciousness, we crafted structures seamlessly blending with their surroundings, evoking organic harmony. Our aim was to broadcast the potential of the project to potential investors not just as a functional space, but also full of a visually appealing environment.

BOULEVARD offers an outdoor street experience featuring distinctive architecture, fascinating designs, and air-conditioned walkways, aimed to improve visitor experience on most hot days in Qatar. It encompasses shops, restaurants, and a prominent international flagship store located at its Central Plaza right in the heart of Boulevard.

E-CULTURE serves as a space, hosting exhibitions showcasing emerging trends, and modern technologies, a convention center, and an event hall housing gaming pavilions and e-sports activities.

RESIDENTIAL GRAND ZONE stands as the residential focal point of the Mall, equipped with educational facilities designed for all types of age groups. Colorful buildings contrasting the natural elements, along with shaded areas, swimming pools, and playgrounds, breathe life into this neighborhood.

SCHOOL AND UNIVERSITY CAMPUS exemplifies the synergy between functionality and ecological aesthetics. Extensive research into sustainable architecture has resulted in a visually appealing campus design, prioritizing accessibility and environmental consciousness of the project.

The first version was featured at MECSC in Dubai in 2021; the second interaction showed the project's evolution at ICSC 2022, which took place in May 2022 at the Las Vegas Convention Center. This version reflected the expansions of the master plan, with new state-of-the-art buildings and green areas.
